dude, that sounds awesome. i’m working on an algorithmic composition in my common music class that deals with some related number-generated kinds of ideas but more focused on formal aspects than creating musical gestures. it’s based on some work done by the italian composer agostino di scipio. if you don’t know him, go check him out RIGHT NOW! i think you would really dig his stuff (i’ve just been introduced to it myself but i think he’s awesome and probably a genius). but it all has to do with using the logistic equation (which produces deterministic chaos, i.e. results that are completely unpredictable but completely determined by the numbers initially fed into the equation) to determine the order of predefined musical events and also the lengths of each of those events within the total length of the piece. so, the algorithm is basically just a scheduler that takes material i’ve already composed and tells me where to put them in a new score and for how long. could be cool, might suck. i want to hear your new beats!
